Do NOT intermingle <br />HMA produced from more than one JMF. During a work shift place each strip of HMA to <br />a single JMF established for the class of HMA specified, unless there is a need to make <br />an adjustment in the JMF. <br />5-04.3(8) Aggregate Acceptance Prior to Incorporation in HMA <br />For HMA accepted by nonstatistical evaluation the aggregate properties of sand <br />equivalent, uncompacted void content and fracture will be evaluated in accordance with <br />Section 3-04. Sampling and testing of aggregates for HMA accepted by commercial <br />evaluation will be at the Engineer’s option. <br />5-04.3(9) HMA Mixture Acceptance <br />Engineer will use nonstatistical, or commercial evaluation for determining acceptance of <br />HMA. <br />Engineer will use nonstatistical evaluation for the HMA acceptance, unless Contract <br />specifies Commercial Evaluation. <br />Engineer will use Commercial evaluation for Commercial HMA and for other classes of <br />HMA in the following applications: sidewalks, road approaches, paths, trails, temporary <br />pavement, and pavement repair. Engineer will need to approve other nonstructural <br />applications of HMA accepted by commercial evaluation. Sampling and testing of HMA <br />accepted by commercial evaluation will be at the Engineer’s option. <br />The mix design will be the initial JMF for the class of HMA. The Contractor may request <br />a change in the JMF. Any adjustments to the JMF will require the Engineer’s approval <br />and may be made in accordance with this section. <br />5-04.3(9)A HMA Tolerances and Adjustments <br />1. Job Mix Formula Tolerances – Provide mixture at the time of acceptance <br />within the following tolerances: <br />For Asphalt Binder and Air Voids (Va), the acceptance limits are <br />determined by adding the tolerances below to the approved JMF values. <br />These values will also be the Upper Specification Limit (USL) and Lower <br />Specification Limit (LSL) required in Section 1-06.2(2)D2.
