Kirk Brooks
From: Corey Hert
Sent: Thursday,August 25, 2016 5:01 PM
To: Kirk Brooks
Cc: Paul McKee; Steve Sawyer; Gerardo Magallanes; Randy Allen; Roy Harris
Subject: RE:41st street tune-up.
Thank you Kirk for composing this email and summarizing the responsibility for the work. I had a couple things to add
before I leave for a few days, feel free to share with the developer as you see fit.
The pavement markings to be restored were layed out on the pavement yesterday in. There are some modifications to
the existing striping plan, most of which are captured on the attached sketch in red. We have eliminated some
unnecessary pavement markings (YIELD letters, stop lines, etc) and updated others to a the current practice for
roundabouts. We do not anticipate needing any striping removal as a result of the changes. On balance, there is far
more striping removed than added. I would recommend that the striping contractor meet with John Wisdom or myself
prior to starting work to walk the job and make sure there's no confusion on the layout markings and answer any
questions. We will make ourselves available on short notice if need be. Roundabouts are notorious for wearing
pavement marking quickly due to the scrubbing effect of constant turning traffic, and the higher the truck percentage,
the shorter the lifespan. We recommend durable pavement marking for all arrows and transverse pavement markings
(yield lines and crosswalk bars).
We did a walk through on the street signing part of the project today with our sign installers. There are 31 sign locations
that need work (with many missing posts), and 27 new signs that need to be fabricated. We will start work early next
week, and it will take several days if not the entire week depending on availability of crew members.
Ai/Sur svortArS
Corey N. Opening is
scheduled-for Sept. 10th.The following list deals with items I am aware of and probably does not contain everything. I'm
expecting any of you who know of additional things that need doing to chime in. I have inserted Corey's (Traffic
Department) information to the end of this email to help with the explanation of his involvement.
• Street signage. The City will perform this work.We are making preparations to have this accomplished by
opening.
1
