RRFB PEDESTRIAN SAFETY October 31, 2025 <br />STATE FUND # HLP-PB25(004) <br />WO 3807 <br />Page 59 of 82 <br />1 <br />2 KEL 8-20.3(2)A Potholing.RTF <br />3 8-20.3(2)A Potholing <br />4 <br />5 Section 8-20.3(2)A is new and is supplemented with the following: <br />6 <br />7 This work consists of exposing underground utility to ascertain the precise horizontal and <br />8 vertical position. After the work is complete, Contractor shall backfill and compact with <br />9 native materials. <br />10 <br />11 Contractor shall contact Call Before You Dig prior to all construction activity. <br />12 <br />13 Contractor shall locate and expose buried utilities to verify location prior to sawcutting <br />14 and/or drilling in area of existing utilities. Contractor shall protect exposed utilities <br />15 throughout the duration of the project. Paved areas shall be restored with temporary <br />16 pavement patch using cold mix (MC 250), ATB or steel plates. Appropriate sediment <br />17 controls shall be implemented to prevent pollution and erosion. <br />18 <br />19 The Contractor is responsible for disposing of any drilling residue or remaining spoil in <br />20 accordance to Section 2-03.3(7)C. Contractor shall pothole existing utilities a minimum of <br />21 3 working days prior to scheduled installation of new permanent work to determine if <br />22 conflict exists. <br />23 <br />24 Potholing will be considered as incidental to the Work that is warranting it. <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 COE 8-20.3(3) Removing & Replacing Improvements.RTF <br />28 8-20.3(3) Removing and Replacing Improvements <br />29 <br />30 The installation of underground signal components such as conduits, junction boxes, <br />31 signal pole foundations, controller foundations, or service pedestal foundations shall <br />32 require the removal and replacement of certain improvements such as traffic signal <br />33 poles, signal controllers, span wires, signal heads, junction boxes, and other <br />34 miscellaneous signal equipment. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to <br />35 perform such removal as required for his work and to restore these areas to original <br />36 condition as directed by the Engineer. The Contractor shall sawcut edges of all <br />37 asphalt and concrete requiring removal. All expansion joints, dummy joints, and "V" <br />38 grooves shall be removed and shall be replaced to match existing joints. <br />39 <br />40 The ends and edges of the patched and re-surfaced areas shall meet and match the <br />41 existing surface and grade and shall terminate in neat even lines parallel to and at <br />42 right angles to the roadway. Damaged, disturbed, or otherwise affected areas, as <br />43 defined, shall have edges of existing pavement trimmed back to provide clean, solid, <br />44 vertical faces, free from loose material. Pavement patching shall be preformed in <br />45 accordance with Standard Drawing No. 316 and these specifications. <br />46 <br />47 Where patches are made in cement concrete pavements or sidewalks, the cement <br />48 concrete shall be Class 4000, Type III. Asphalt concrete patching shall be <br />49 accomplished with HMA ‰", PG 64-22. Tack coat shall be applied between <br />50 successive layers of asphalt. Asphalt for tack coat shall be Type CSS-1. The surface <br />51 of all joints between existing asphalt pavement and the new pavement shall be sealed <br />52 with paving asphalt meeting the requirements of Section 9-02.1(4).
