PGSF WMVD Storm and Combined Sewer - Construction Package 2 Concrete Reinforcing <br />Project No. 180162 03 20 00 - 3 <br /> <br />C. Provide stainless steel or plastic protected plain steel supports for other work. <br />2.06 FABRICATION <br />A. Fabricate reinforcing steel bars in accordance with ACI 315 and the following tolerances: <br />1. Sheared lengths: +/-1 inch. <br />2. Overall dimensions of stirrups, ties, and spirals: +/-1/2 inch. <br />3. All other bends: +0 inch, -1/2 inch <br />4. Minimum diameter of bends of reinforcing steel bars: Per ACI 318. <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br />3.01 PLACEMENT TOLERANCE <br />A. Reinforcing steel placement tolerance shall conform to the requirements of ACI 117, ACI <br />318, and the following: <br />1. Reinforcing steel bar clear distance to formed surfaces shall be within +/-1/4 inch of <br />specified clearance and minimum spacing between bars shall be a maximum of <br />1/4 inch less than specified. <br />2. Reinforcing steel top bars in slabs and beams shall be placed +/-1/4 inch of <br />specified depth in members 8 inches deep or less and -1/4”, +1/2 inch of specified <br />depth in members greater than 8 inches deep. <br />3. Reinforcing steel spacing shall be placed within +/- one bar diameter or +/- 1 inch, <br />whichever is greater. <br />4. The minimum clear distance between reinforcing steel bars shall be equal to the <br />greater of 1 inch or the reinforcing steel bar diameter for beams, walls and slabs, and <br />the greater of 1 1/2 inches or 1.5 times the reinforcing steel bar diameter for <br />columns. <br />5. Beam and slab reinforcing steel bars shall be threaded through column vertical <br />reinforcing steel bars without displacing the column reinforcing steel bars and still <br />maintain clear distances for beam and slab reinforcing steel bars. <br />3.02 CONCRETE COVER <br />A. Unless specified otherwise on the Drawings, reinforcing steel bar cover shall conform to <br />the following: <br />1. Reinforcing steel bar cover shall be 3 inches for concrete cast against earth. <br />2. Reinforcing steel bar cover shall be 2 inches for reinforcing steel bars for formed <br />concrete surfaces exposed to earth and weather. <br />3. Reinforcing steel bar cover shall be 2 inches for any formed surfaces exposed to or <br />above any liquid. <br />4. Reinforcing steel bar cover shall be 1 ½ inches for reinforcing not in the above <br />categories unless noted otherwise on the design drawings.
