#°11P/ A1 <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 2543-01 <br /> AN ORDINANCE Relating to Skateboarding, Amending Sections 2 through 6 <br /> of Ordinance No. 1934-93 (EMC Chapter 46.72); and Adding new Sections to <br /> Ordinance No. 1934-93 (EMC Chapter 46.72). <br /> WHEREAS, in 1993 the City Council of the City of Everett found that the riding of <br /> skateboards was becoming an increasingly frequent occurrence in downtown Everett, an <br /> area used by automobile traffic and pedestrians in high volume; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Everett also found that the potential danger <br /> to the public and the apprehension thereof by pedestrians was such that it was reasonable <br /> and appropriate for the public safety and well-being to prohibit the riding of skateboards <br /> in downtown Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 1993 the City Council of the City of Everett also prohibited negligent <br /> operation of skateboards, provided for seizure of skateboards in certain circumstances, <br /> and prohibited the riding of skateboards on public sidewalks or roadways in business <br /> districts; and <br /> WHEREAS, since 1993 there has been a proliferation of other non-motorized means of <br /> transportation, such as scooters and in-line skates, that pose similar hazards for <br /> automobile traffic and pedestrians; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> Section 1: A new section is hereby added to Ordinance No. 1934-93, to read as <br /> follows: <br /> Definitions. <br /> The following definitions apply in this chapter: <br /> A. "Roller skates"has its ordinary meaning and means a pair of shoes mounted upon two <br /> sets of wheels, most often propelled by the user in an upright, standing position. <br /> B. "In-line skates"has its ordinary meaning and means a pair of shoes or boots, mounted <br /> upon three or more sets of wheels located one behind the other under the attached shoe or <br /> boot, and is most often propelled by the user in an upright, standing position. <br /> C. "Skateboard" has its ordinary meaning and includes a board of any material with <br /> wheels affixed to the underside, designed to be ridden by a person. <br />
