The existing
hillside would be excavated into and a series of terraced benches would be constructed
to provide the required space.
We understand that the City of Everett has requested that a limited slope evaluation be
completed for the project due to the presence of a relatively steep slopes located within
the vicinity of the project site.
SITE CONDITIONS
Geologic information for the project site was obtained from the U.S. Geological Survey
(USGS) online map of Washington State. According to the USGS, the vicinity of the
project site is mapped as Advanced Continental Glacial Outwash (Qga(t)) from the
Fraser age. Advanced Continental Glacial Outwash is comprised of glaciofluvial sand
and gravel and lacustrine clay, silt and sand deposited during the advanced of glaciers.
The sandy units are fine grained with interlayered coarser sand, gravel and cobbles.
Site soils appear consistent with the mapped geology.
Upon arrival to the site, it was observed that a near vertical cut had been made into the
hillside just south of the residence. The cut was approximately 9 feet in height at the
highest point, tapering down to the north and south, and approximately 40 feet in length.
The cut had been exposed for approximately 1 week's time and appeared stable. The
exposed dense/hard silty sand to sandy silt with gravel face was probed with a 3/8 inch
pointed stainless steel rod and penetrations of less than an inch were achieved. It is our
understanding that two benches will be excavated into the cut, each 3 feet vertical and 3
feet horizontal giving the hillside a more stable configuration. The bare soil will be
vegetated once the benches are in place.
