vecic wors
Subject: Obstruction of Streets and Sidewalks
Dear Property Owner,
The Public Works Department encourages right-of-way improvements throughout the city
that both benefit the adjoining property owners and the public. Trees, shrubs, and other
types of vegetation that overhang the street or sidewalk along your property need to be
maintained, trimmed, and managed to allow free and full use of the sidewalk or street by
the general public.
The Public Works Department will be operating under a policy which offers to property
owners the opportixnity to trim the vegetation to the "line of sight and obstruction
standards" listed below.
Vertical Clearance: 16.5 feet minimum over street
7 feet minimum over. sidevalk area
The vertical clearance standards over the street .re 16.5 feet above the street areas
measured from the gutter line at the curb. The vertical clearance standards over the
sidewalk are 7 feet above any part of a sidewalk or pedestrian path area.
Affected property owners will usually be given 2 weeks notification of vegetation and/or
trees that need trunming to conform to clearance standards. If property owner is unable to
trim trees during the 2-week notification period, then city crews may schedule and
complete the necessary work. This is not a full tree pruning but only clearance trimming as
indicated in the examples.
Thank you for your assistance. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Larry
Cram at 425-257-8877.
Sincerely,
,
U
Roy Harris
Maintenance & Operations Supervisor
(NOTE: Examples of trimming on back of letter)
S:VlCommoo\clerical\S?REETS\OBSSTftT.DOC (Y7 3/20/02)
CITY OF EVERETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 •(425) 257-8800 • Fax (425) 257-8882
