The purpose of the examination was to determine the effect of root
pruning necessitated by sidewalk repair.
The tree was examined on May 26, 2005 by Tom Hanson.
Tree detail is attached on the ``Tree hazard Evaluation Form".
The subject tree is 80 or more years in age with a single trunk. It is a mature tree with a full
live crown and no indications of defect or disease. Small holes in the bari indicate the
presence of sap suckers, however there does nvt appear to be significant decay problem.
Roots have lifted the sidewalk, necessitating removal of the old concrete and replacement.
That removal exposed several roots ranging from 2-inches to 6-inches in diameter. These
roots must be removed to replace the sidewalk to its original level.
It is my opinion that removal of the exposed roots will not significantly affeet the health or
structural integrity of the tree. A solid root barrier at least 18-inches deep should be placed
beiween the severed roots and the new sidewalk.
I noted that other elms on the street are exhibiting decline in the way of thinning crowns and
dead limb tips, unlike the subject that appears to be in good vigor.
There is no warranty suggested for any of the t►Ees subject to this rport. Weather, latent
tree conditions, and future man-caused activ"ties cou/d cause physio/ogic changes and
deteriorating tree condition. Over time, deteriorating t►e conditions may appear and there
may be conditions, which a not now visib/e which, cdu/d cause tiee failur. This ►port or
the verha/ comments made at the site in no way warrant the structural stabili#y or fong term
condition of any tree, but rpresent my opinion based on the observations made.
Neariy all trees in any condition standing within reach of imprnvements or human use areas
rpresent hazatcis that cou/d /ead to damage or injury.
Please call if I can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Th . anson tSA
Erfed ons
(425) 820-3420 • Fax (425) 820-3437 • vwvw.inforestry.com
