Stantec
May 30,2017
Mike Bearda
City of Everett
Engineering/Public Services
3200 Cedar Street
Everett,WA 98201
Subject: PRMCE A-Wing Switchboard Replacement
Responses to Electrical Plan Review Comments
Dear Mike,
Below are responses to the plan review comments that I reviewed with Steve in your
office on the phone on May 23,2017. Enclosed is revised drawing E8.21 that reflects
the necessary changes to the design.
1. The specifications for the switchboards for the project(Section 262413)
requires that any breakers 1200A and larger be provided with a manual
switching means to override delay in instantaneous trip sensing elements to
4100194th St SW reduce the arc flash hazard on the load side of the circuit breaker in
Suite 400 accordance with NEC 240.87(B).
Lynnwood,Washington 2. The current design for the connection to Elevators#2 and#3 includes a
98036-4613 400A-3P breaker and#350MCM conductors. After review of this condition,
we believe that it does comply with the NEC. Each of these elevators is 28hp
206-667-0555
800-667-0610 at 208-volts,3-phase(30hp is 88amps). Per NEC 620.61(B)(1),the overload
206-667-0554 protection for these two elevators shall be permitted to be in accordance with
NEC 430.33. Further,Table 430.52 allows the overload protection to be up to
www.stantec.com 800% of the full load current. Our expectation is that the breaker feeding
these elevators was oversized to allow for the expected in-rush current.
3. We have revised the drawing to show a 500A-3P breaker to feed the existing
30hp fire pump. This complies with NEC 695.4(B)(2)(a)(1)and Table
430.7(B). The existing conductor size at#3/0 is adequate to supply the fire
pump in accordance with NEC 695.6(B)(1).
4. Enclosed is the current load calculation information for Providence Everett's
Colby Campus. This project is not adding load to the A-Wing Main
Switchboard so these numbers reflect the current loads on Bus#3,Bus#4
and Bus#5.
Please review this information and let me know if you have any questions or wish to
discuss further.
Sincerely,
tAANYA144V6-411—
Maureen D.Jackson,PE
Principal,Electrical
