Planning and Community Development <br /> 437,_ <br /> 2930 Wetmore Ave.,Suite 8-A <br /> Everett,WA 98201 <br /> www.everettwa.gov <br /> TO: Paul Roberts, Councilmember <br /> CC: Mayor Stephanson <br /> Allan Giffen, Planning Director <br /> FROM: David Stalheim, Long Range Planning Manager <br /> DATE: August 19, 2016 <br /> RE: Socio-economic and voting data <br /> As requested to inform the City Council's General Governmental Subcommittee discussions regarding <br /> districts, I have compiled some socio-economic and voting data for the city of Everett. <br /> Data Provided <br /> The socio-economic data used is from the 2010-2014 American Community Survey(ACS).1 These 5-year <br /> estimates are available at the"block group" level,'which are at a scale that most closely approximates <br /> voting precincts. Data and maps3 provided include: <br /> • Race and ethnicity <br /> • Educational Attainment(25 and over) <br /> • Household Income <br /> • Age <br /> The voting data includes a 2016 precinct map and voter turnout from the August 2, 2016 primary.This <br /> information was obtained from the Snohomish County Auditor. <br /> Everett Voters <br /> According to the most recent Snohomish County election results,there were: <br /> • 51,971 registered voters <br /> • 15,917 ballots cast in the August 2, 2016 primary <br /> For this primary election, Everett voter turnout was 30.6%. Reviewing precinct data,the highest precinct <br /> turnout was 52.54%(Everett 1) and the lowest was 12.00% (Everett 92).4 <br /> The following figure shows precincts with voter turnout less than average for the August 2nd primary. <br /> 1 The American Community Survey(ACS)is an ongoing survey that provides information on a yearly basis.The five- <br /> year It is a sample survey with <br /> 2 A block group consists of clusters of blocks within the same census tract,and is generally defined to contain <br /> between 300 and 3,000 people.Block groups do not correspond to current city limits;thus,total numbers will not <br /> correspond with totals at a city level. <br /> 3 City-wide maps can be downloaded until September 6,2016 on our FTP site at <br /> https://ftp.everettwa.gov/?ShareToken=4BDB1 E017596B345D27FA062D4CD06DE00A86A3B <br /> 4 One precinct(Everett 70)has only four registered voters and no ballots cast.
