TAAN=PORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE, TUE. , MAY 10, 1983 PAGE 2 OF 8
s • •
SPEED LIMIT STUDY
1
ITEM 1 SPEED LIMIT REVISIONS EXISTING: PROPOSED: DATA-85%
A. EVERETT MALL WAY(I-5 SB OFF RAMP TO 7TH AVE SE) 45 MPH 35 MPH 38 MPH
B. EVERETT MALL WAY (7TH AVE SE TO EVERGREEN WAY) 45 MPH 40 MPH 46 MPH
TAC reviewed and recommended reduction of this roadway speed limit to 35 MPH on
May 16, 1978. The two new traffic signals being installed, new development, and
intersection/driveway collisions were the factors considered. Since then, not
just two signals but a total of 6 signals to control traffic generated by the
commercial development have been added along with the Ma-1 expansion, new Everett
Mall Village, Broadway Plaza. EPD requests reducing the limit and Traffic Engin-
eering concurs.
C. NORTH BROADWAY (12TH ST TO 7TH ST) 40 MPH 35 MPH 38 NB
EPD requests lowering the North Broadway limit from 40 to match the 35 of the
rest of Broadway. A signal has been added at 10th Street, new commercial develop-
ment includes the Albertson's, Jafco, Payless, & other shops, and both sidestreet
vehicle traffic and the signal at 7th St. would reduce the limit in the area with
increased turning/crossing movement activity and still leave a 40 mph transition
between 7th Street and the Snohomish River Bridge (55 mph) . Traffic Engineering
and EPD concur on the recommended change.
D. 75TH ST. (HARDESON RD TO 20TH AVE W/SEAWAY BLVD.) 25 MPH 30 MPH NA
75th has been improved to arterial standards without the formal adoption of a new
speed limit. Adopting a 30 mph limit in accordance with the design of the new
street would replace the "blanket" 25 mph limit that currently is the legal limit.
This change is basically a housekeeping measure providing for signing.
E. 80TH ST ( HARDESON RD TO 16TH AVE W) 25 MPH 30 MPH NA
Same as "D".
F. 16TH AVE W (75TH ST TO 80TH ST.) 25 MPH 30 MPH NA
Same as "D"
G. 20TH AVE W (SR526 RAMP GORES TO 75th ST) SB 40 MPH 40 MPH NA
NB 30 MPH 40 MPH 51 MPH
EPD requesting revision to make limited access transition between the freeway ramp
merge/diverge (gore) areas to make NB & SB consistent. Traffic Engineering concurs.
TAC action requested:
Particular discussion of A, B, and C and recommendation of speed limit.
Recommendation and discussion, if any, of the housekeeping D, E, F, and G.
No formal staff presentation is planned for these items.
2
