As you requested by phone, on September 16, 2015, Mr. Michael P. McCann of MPM Engineering, made an on-site inspection of the existing slab on grade on September 18, 2015, to determine if it is structurally adequate to support a new 12 X 16 structure. Mr. McCann is a licensed structural engineer in the State of Washington. As it presently exists to the east of the existing residence, the slab is 16' X 20' with the 20' dimension in a north south direction. The thickness of the slab is 3.5" and the reinforcing is unknown. The slab has an edge footing on the east side and the eastern portion of the north and south walls. That footing is about 6" to 8" " deep. There is an existing concrete apron to the south extending away from the slab. The slab used to be used as the floor of a garage which has since been removed. The east edge of the existing slab is about three to four feet from an existing fence line. It is the intent of the owner to erect a new 12'X 16 foot wood structure on the slab, with the 16 foot dimension running east west. The south wall of the new structure will align with the south edge of the existing slab, leaving a 8X16 foot area of the existing slab exposed.
