Return air from one dwelling <br />unit shall not be discharged into another dwelliTzg unit. <br />618.7 (IFGS) Furnace plenums and air ducts. Where a fur- <br />nace is installed so that supply ducts carry air circulated by <br />the furnace to areas outside of the space containing the fur- <br />nace, the return air shall also be handled by a duct(s) sealed to <br />the furnace casing and ternunating outside of the space con- <br />taining the furnace. <br />SECTION 619 (IFGC) <br />CONVERSION BURNERS <br />619.1 Conversion burners. The installation of conversion <br />burners shall conform to ANSI Z21.8. <br />SECTION 620 (IFGC) <br />UNIT HEATERS <br />G20.1 �etter�l. Unit heaters shall be tested in accordance <br />with ANSI Z83.8 and shall be installed in accordance with <br />the manufacturer's installation instructions. <br />620.2 Support. Suspended-type unit heaters shall be sup- <br />ported by elements that are designed and constructed to <br />accommodate the weight and dynamic loads. Hangers and <br />brackets shall be of noncombustible material. <br />620.3 Ductwork. Ducts shall not be connected to a unit <br />heater unless the heater is listed for such installation. <br />620.4 Clearance. Suspended-type unit heaters shall be <br />instulled wiNl clearances to cni�aUr.�sliF�le u��rtc�r�ir�l.s of n��t Ics,s <br />than 18 inches (457 nun) at the sides, 12 inches (305 mm) at <br />the bottom and 6 inches (152 mm) above the top where the <br />unit heater has an internal draft hood or 1 inch (25 mm) above <br />the top of the sloping side of the vertical draft hood. <br />Floor-mounted-type unit heaters shall be installed with <br />clearances to co�nbustible �naterials at the back and one side <br />only of not less than 6 inches (152 mm). Where the flue gases <br />are vented harizontally, the 6-inch (152 mm) clearance shall <br />be measured from the draft hood or vent instead of the rear <br />wall of the unit heater. Floor-mounted-type unit heaters shall <br />not be installed on combustible floors unless listed for such <br />installation. <br />Clearances for servicing all unit heaters shall be in accor- <br />dance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. <br />Exception: Unit heaters listed for reduced clearance shall <br />be permitted to be installed with such clearances in accor- <br />dance with their listing and the manufacturer's instruc- <br />tions. <br />620.5 (IFGS) Installation in commercial garages and air- <br />craft hangars. Unit heaters installed in garages for more than <br />three motor vehicles or in aircraft hangars shall be installed in <br />accordance with Sections 305.9, 305.10 and 305.11. <br />SECTION 621 (IFGC) <br />UNVENTED ROOM HEATERS <br />621.1 General. Unvented room heaters shall be tested in <br />accordance with ANSI Z21.11.2 and shall be installed in <br />SPECIFIC APPLIANCES <br />accordance with the conditions of the listing and the manu- <br />facturer's installation instructions. Unvented room heaters <br />utilizing fuels other than fuel gas shall be regulated by the <br />b2ternational Mechanical Code. <br />621.2 Prohibited use. One or more unvented room heaters <br />shall not be used as the sole source of comfort heating in a <br />dwelling unit. <br />621.3 Input rating. Unvented room heaters shall not have an <br />input rating in excess of 40,000 Btu/h (11.7 kW). <br />621.4 Prohibited locations. Unvented room heaters shall not <br />be installed within occupancies in Groups A, E and I. The <br />Iocation of unvented room heaters shall also comply with <br />Section 303.3. <br />G2fl.5 gtc�c�rn or space v�lwne. '1'he aggregate input iating of <br />all unvented appliances installed in a room or space shall not <br />exceed 20 Btu/h per cubic foot (207 W/m') of volume of such <br />room or space. Where the room or space in which the appli- <br />ances are installed is directly connected Co another rooin or <br />space by a doorway, archway or other opening of comparable <br />size that cannot be closed, the volume of such adjacent room <br />or space shall be pernutted to be included in the calculations. <br />621.6 Oxygen-depletion safety system. Unvented room <br />heaters shall be equipped with an oxygen-depletion-sensitive <br />safety shutoff system. The system shall shut off the gas sup- <br />ply to the main and pilot burners when the oxygen in the sur- <br />rounding atmosphere is depleted to the percent concentration <br />specified by the manufacturer, but not lower than 18 percent. <br />The system shall not incorporate field adjustment means <br />cupable of changiub lhe sct poiiit aC whicli ll�c syste;m acLs lo <br />shut off the gas supply to the room heater. <br />621.7 Unvented decorative room heaters. An unvented <br />decorative room heater shall not be installed in a factory-built <br />fireplace unless the fireplace system has been specifically <br />tested, listed and labeled for such use in accordance with UL <br />127. <br />621.7.1 Ventless firebox enclosures. Ventless firebox <br />enclosures used with unvented decorative room heaters <br />shall be listed as complying with ANSI Z21.91. <br />SECTION 622 (IFGC) <br />VENTED ROOM HEATERS <br />622.1 General. Vented room heaters shall be tested in accor- <br />dance with ANSI Z21.86/CSA 232, shall be designed and <br />equipped as speciiied in Section 602.2 and shall be installed <br />in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instruc- <br />tions. <br />SECTION 623 (IFGC) <br />COOKING APPLIANCES <br />623.1 Cooking appliances. Cooking appliances that are <br />designed for permanent installation, including ranges, ovens, <br />stoves, broilers, grills, fryers, griddles, hot plates and barbe- <br />cues, sha11 be tested in accordance with ANSI Z21.1, ANSI <br />Z21.58 or ANSI Z83.11 and shall be installed in accordance <br />with the manufacturer's installation instructions. <br />2012 INTERNATIONAL FUEL GAS CODE� �25 <br />
