Ted Budden
From: Ted Budden
Sent: Friday, September 11, 2015 10:54 AM
To: Cynthia Keirsey
Subject: 1605 36th St (Also Known as 1607 36th St)
Cindy,
We responded to the concerns about the deteriorated balconies at 1605 36t"St. Here is a brief summary of our findings
and actions.
The elevated wooden balconies that serve the four separate dwelling units within this building are structurally damaged
by rot and deterioration.
One balcony located on the north side of the building has had attempted repairs made recently to address the
deteriorated conditions. These repairs are not sufficient to address the damage, nor were these repairs conducted with
required building permits.
Two balconies located on the east side of the building are severely deteriorated and have been partially deconstructed.
Exterior walls of the building may not be weather tight and appear to have indications of leaking. This leaking has
according to a statement made by one of the occupants, contributed to rotting of a structural beam above one of the
patio doors.
The deteriorated walls and balconies are Unsafe Structures as defined by the IPMC section 108.1.1
1 have posted the building with a Stop Work order and an Unsafe Structure placards.
I support and encourage enforcement action to abate the unsafe conditions.
Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance in this matter.
Ted Budden
Chief Inspector
Everett Building Department
425.257 7271
1
