Standards and Guidelines <br /> a. An on-site pedestrian circulation system meeting the following standards shall be <br /> provided for all multiple family developments: <br /> (1) Pathways between dwelling units and the street are required per the materials <br /> standards in paragraph c of this subsection. Such pathways between the street <br /> and buildings fronting on the street shall be in a straight line. Direct pathways between the street and dwelling units are required. <br /> (2) The pedestrian circulation system shall connect all main entrances on the site. <br /> For townhouses or other residential units fronting on the street, the sidewalk <br /> may be used to meet this standard. For multiple-family developments, <br /> pedestrian connections to other areas of the site, such as parking areas, <br /> recreational areas, common outdoor areas, and any pedestrian amenities shall be <br /> required, where applicable. <br /> (3) Elevated external stairways or walkways which provide pedestrian access to <br /> dwelling units located above the ground floor are prohibited. The planning <br /> director may allow exceptions for external stairways or walkways located in, or <br /> facing interior courtyard areas provided they do not compromise visual access <br /> from dwelling units into the courtyard. <br /> 57 <br />
