OP/%5=A <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 3401-14 El/F?ETT <br /> An Ordinance Relating to Utility Fire Service Connections <br /> Amending Section 48 of Ordinance 1237-86 (EMC 14.16.480) <br /> WHEREAS, Chapter EMC 14.16.480 concerns ownership and costs related for utility fire <br /> service connections; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City wishes to clarify EMC 14.16.480 with respect to responsibility between <br /> the City and property owners for fire service connections; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> Section 1. EMC 14.16.480 (Ord. 1237-86 § 48, 1986), which reads as follows: <br /> All fire service connections shall be installed by and remain the property of the <br /> utilities division unless otherwise authorized by the utilities superintendent. The <br /> utilities division shall own, operate and maintain the fire service from and <br /> including the connection to the main to and including the fire service meter or <br /> detector check meter and vault. A valve may be provided downstream of the <br /> meter for the customer to use as a shutoff. The expense for all labor, materials and <br /> equipment rental required for tapping mains, making connections, placing valves, <br /> meters or any other protective device deemed necessary by the utilities <br /> superintendent to prevent the unauthorized use of water, including the testing of <br /> completed work, shall be paid by the customer. <br /> is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> All fire service connections shall be installed by and remain the property of the <br /> utilities division unless otherwise authorized by the utilities superintendent. The <br /> utilities division shall own, operate and maintain the fire service from and <br /> including the connection from the main to the first valve on the backflow device, <br /> not including the connection to the first valve, and the detector meter only. <br /> Should the backflow device be allowed in a building on the premises a valve shall <br /> be installed at or near property line to delineate the end of City responsibility and <br /> ownership with the exception of the detector meter, which remains the <br /> responsibility of the City.
