EVERETT COMPREHENSIVE PLAN <br /> number of providers; including Cingular, T-Mobile, Verizon, Qwest,Nextel, Sprint and others. <br /> Wireless technology is a combination of a portion of the radio frequency spectrum with switching <br /> technology, making it possible to provide mobile or portable telephone service to virtually any <br /> number of subscribers within a given area. The Federal Communications Commission(FCC) <br /> regulates the cellular telephone and wireless communications industry by controlling where carriers <br /> can operate and what radio frequencies can be utilized in their operation. <br /> All of these technologies use a line-of-sight radio signal transmitted and received by antennas <br /> known as "cells." Extension of coverage of cellular services is accomplished by constructing new <br /> cell sites or increasing capacity of the existing system. The location of cellular equipment is <br /> restricted by the Federal Aviation Administration and existing radio transmitters. <br /> 4. Cable Services <br /> Cable television, FM radio, and digital cable services are provided,through franchise,by Comcast <br /> to the Everett area with approximately 20,000 current subscribers. Comcast also provides services <br /> with the unincorporated portion of the planning area under a franchise with Snohomish County. <br /> Cable services are regulated by National Cable Televisions Association guidelines and FCC <br /> regulations. <br /> Cable television and services installations are driven directly by demand and are funded through <br /> subscriber changes and hook-up fees. Comcast believes the system is well equipped to serve <br /> anticipated new development and annexation by adding trunk and distribution facilities. <br /> D. Other Service Providers <br /> 1. School Districts <br /> All school districts within Snohomish County have individual capital facilities plans. Each of these <br /> plans are submitted and become part of the "Snohomish County School Districts Capital Facilities <br /> Plan, ". This document provides an inventory of existing facilities and levels of service for each <br /> district. Copies of each of the school district plans are available from Snohomish County Planning <br /> and each district will have a copy of their plan. <br /> Three districts serve the Everett Planning Area.
