April 25, 2012
The regular meeting of the Everett City Council was called to order at
12:30 p.m., April 25, 2012 in the City Council Chambers of the Everett
City Hall, President Gipson presiding. Upon roll call it was found that
Mayor Stephanson and Council Members Roberts, Moore, Hatloe,
Gipson, and Nielsen were present. Council Members Stonecipher and
Affholter were excused.
David Hall, Assistant City Attorney, led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes of the April 18, 2012 Everett City Council meeting were
approved as printed. Council Member Gipson abstained from the vote.
MAYOR
Mayor Stephanson had no comments.
CITY COUNCIL
Council Member Roberts mentioned that the Boeing Company is looking
at the next generation of the 777 and also looking at the possibility of
locating other facilities that may be here. The city has an outstanding
track record of working with the aerospace industry and we need to be
doing everything we can in reaching out to the aerospace industry.
Mayor Stephanson responded that the Snohomish County Alliance is
deeply involved in this issue as well. This issue will span alot of different
areas of interest in the community. It will help us accelerate higher
education with Washington State University. The Port is looking closely at
what the future will hold for them relative to how they respond and ensure
the supply chain. We are well positioned but need to be cautious. The
decisions made in the next few years won't be felt for a decade or longer.
We remain focused.
President Gipson thanked Council Member Moore for running last week's
meeting. On behalf of Administrative Assistant's Day he thanked the city
council administrative assistant, Deb Williams, and all admin assistants
throughout the city organization.
117
