May 16, 2012
The regular meeting of the Everett City Council was called to order at 6:30
p.m., May 16, 2012 in the City Council Chambers of the Everett City Hall,
Council Member Moore presiding.
Council Member Moore stated that the tragic loss of our colleague, Drew
Nielsen, has had a devastating impact on our entire community as we
each uniquely deal with the grieving process. The agenda has been
abbreviated. All council briefing items and action items have been
postponed to one of our next two meetings. It is important to note that a
memorial gathering is planned for Sunday, May 20, from noon to 2:00
p.m. in the Weyerhaeuser Room at the Everett Station. It is with the
upmost respect for Councilman Nielsen, his family, his friends, colleagues
and entire community that we ask for a moment of silence.
Upon roll call it was found that Mayor Stephanson and Council Members
Roberts, Moore, Stonecipher, and Affholter were present. Council
Members Hatloe and Gipson were excused.
Council Member Affholter led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes of the May 9, 2012 Everett City Council meeting were
approved as printed. Council Members Moore and Stonecipher abstained
from the vote.
MAYOR
Mayor Stephanson extended his sincere condolences to Councilman
Nielsen's family and loved ones during this very difficult time.
RESOLUTION — SENATOR HENRY M. JACKSON
Moved by Council Member Roberts, seconded by Council Member
Affholter to adopt Resolution No. 6497 in honor of Evereft's favorite
son, Senator Henry M. Jackson, on his 100th birthday, and that May
31, 2012, be declared "Scoop Jackson Day" in the city of Everett.
132
