May 23, 2012 <br /> The regular meeting of the Everett City Council was called to order at <br /> 12:30 p.m., May 23, 2012 in the City Council Chambers of the Everett City <br /> Hall, President Gipson presiding. Upon roll call it was found that Mayor <br /> Stephanson, Council Members Roberts, Moore, Hatloe, Gipson, <br /> Stonecipher and Affholter were present. <br /> Council Member Roberts led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> The minutes of the May 16, 2012 city council meeting were approved. <br /> Council Members Hatloe and Gipson abstained from the vote. <br /> MAYOR <br /> Mayor Stephanson had no comment. <br /> CITY COUNCIL <br /> President Gipson made the following announcement. With the passing of <br /> Council Member Nielsen it has been a sad week for the city of Everett. <br /> Council Position No. 5 will be filled in the upcoming November election. <br /> By Charter the City Council is to make an interim appointment by June 11. <br /> In conferring with the City Attorney there are several options which can be <br /> taken including: 1) simply appointing an individual; 2) taking nominations <br /> from the Council, conducting interviews and selecting an individual; and 3) <br /> conducting a full process as was done in the past. Applicants must be a <br /> minimum of 18 years of age, a registered voter and a resident of the city <br /> of Everett for a minimum of one year. <br /> The process will be as follows: Public notice will be provided. A letter of <br /> interest and a resume confirming the applicant's qualifications is to be <br /> submitted to the City Clerk's Office no later than 10 a.m., May 29, 2012. <br /> Following that, Council will be provided the information submitted and <br /> each Council member will then make a nomination from the list of <br /> applicants. Interviews before the City Council will take place at a public <br /> meeting and the applicants will be voted on by the City Council Members. <br /> He reminded Council members that the process is governed by the Open <br /> Public Meetings Act, and Council members should not engage in group <br /> 137 <br />
