-15-
and replaced with fill compacted to at least 95 percent of the maximum
dry density. Footings should be at least 2 feet wide, and should bear
at least 18 inches below lowest adjacent finished grade. For footings
constructed as recommended, a design allowable bearing pressure of 2000
pounds per square foot (psf) is recommended. We estimate that total
potential settlements should not exceed 1 inch.
Kasch Park Two-Story Concession: Anticipated subsurface conditions at
this structure are based on the results of TP-205, where medium dense to
dense unweathered till was encountered at about Elevation 559. Softball
field grades are planned to range from Elevation 557 to 559. Thus, it
appears that footings will bear on medium dense native soil . Footings
should be at least 2 feet wide, and should bear at least 18 inches below
lowest adjacent finished grade. For footings constructed as recom-
mended, a design allowable bearing pressure of 3000 psf is recommended.
For this bearing pressure, we estimate that total potential settlements
should not exceed 1 inch.
Kasch Park Maintenance Facility: For this structure, subsurface condi-
tions at TP-207 indicated that dense native soil can be expected below a
depth of about 1 foot, corresponding to Elevation 567. Considering the
proximity to the softball fields, we assume that final grade will be
about Elevation 560. We recommend that footings bear on dense native
soil , have a minimum width of at least 2 feet, and should bear at least
18 inches below lowest adjacent finished grade. For footings constructed
as recommended, a design allowable bearing pressure of 3000 psf is rec-
ommended. For this bearing pressure, we estimate that total potential
settlements should not exceed 1/2 inch.
Kasch Park Picnic Shelters: Similar soil conditions were encountered at
the two proposed picnic shelters, corresponding to the locations of
TP-201 and TP-208. Medium dense, relatively clean till fill or unweath-
ered till was observed from a depth of 0.8 feet to about 6 feet. Suit-
able foundation support can be provided by excavating existing soil to a
depth of 2 feet below the planned bottom of footing elevation and re-
placing it with fill compacted to at least 95 percent of the maximum dry
