December 5, 2012
ACTION ITEMS:
CITY COUNCIL VACANCY — POSITION 3
Council President Gipson made the following announcement. The
Council has determined by majority vote the process to be followed in
filling Position 3, vacated by Council Member Hatloe, beginning January 1,
2013. After conferring with the City Attorney, President Gipson reviewed
options that the council could elect to complete the process. Council
applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age, a registered voter, and
a resident of the city of Everett for a minimum of one year.
The process will occur as follows: Public notice will be provided. A letter
of interest and a resume confirming the applicant's qualifications are to be
submitted to the City Clerk's office no later than Wednesday,
December 12, 2012, 5:00 p.m. Following that, council members will be
provided with application packets by Thursday, December 13, 2012,
5:00 p.m. By Monday, December 17, 2012, 12:00 p.m., each council
member will submit to Deb Williams, council coordinator, a nomination
from the list of applicants for the open position. These nominations will be
made public by the council president no later than Tuesday,
December 18, 2012, 12:00 p.m. The Council President will schedule a
time at a public meeting to interview each of the nominated candidates. It
is anticipated that interviews will take place following the regular Everett
City Council meeting on Thursday, December 27, 2012. Should no
candidate receive a majority vote upon vote of the council, council
members will vote again eliminating the candidate receiving the least
votes from the next round of votes. This process will continue until a
candidate is selected.
Moved by Council Member Stonecipher, seconded by Council
Member Roberts, to approve the public process that will be used to
fill the Position 3 vacancy.
Roll was called with all council members voting yes except Council
Members Moore and Hatloe who were excused.
Motion carried.
342
