I. Scope of Service <br /> A. Activities/Project Description <br /> The Subgrantee will be responsible for administering the Robotics Programming program in a <br /> manner satisfactory to the City and consistent with any standards required as a condition of <br /> providing these funds. Such program will include the following activities eligible under the Community <br /> Development Block Grant Program: <br /> Program Delivery <br /> Activity: <br /> The Everett Boys & Girls Club Robotics program utilizes curriculum from the Boys & Girls Clubs of <br /> America. Using Lego Mindstorms® —a self-contained kit that provides an introduction to robotics—Club <br /> members will work in groups, using the kits and tutorials to build and program a robot that interacts with its <br /> environment in numerous ways. The program runs in eight-week sessions and will take place over two <br /> sessions in 2016/2017, with activities scheduled for one hour during the week and two hours on Saturdays. <br /> General Administration <br /> The program will be implemented by the Everett Boys & Girls Club's program director and two program <br /> assistants and will expose Everett youth to the fun and educational introduction to the field of robotics and its <br /> ancillary components of electronics, mechanics and software. <br /> B. National Objectives <br /> The Subgrantee certifies that the activities carried out with funds provided under this Agreement will <br /> meet one or more of the following CDBG National Objectives - 1) benefit low/moderate income <br /> persons, 2) aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight or, 3) meet community development <br /> needs having a particular urgency- as defined in 24 CFR Part 570.208. Briefly describe how this <br /> National Objective will be met. <br /> The Everett Boys & Girls Club serves a large number of low income youth, with 88% of the Club's membership <br /> receiving free and reduced lunch (BGCSC's proxy determination of household income level). The Club serves <br /> an average of 233 kids per day and has a membership totaling 1,374 youth. It is strategically located in an area <br /> with a high number of low income housing complexes and serves many youth from immigrant families. The <br /> Robotics Program at the Everett Boys & Girls Club will improve the service offerings at the Everett Boys & <br /> Girls Club, which is strategically located to serve a high number of low income youth. The facility serves all <br /> youth in the area, with scholarships provided to youth whose families cannot afford the cost of membership ($30 <br /> per year). The Everett Boys & Girls Club serves low income youth by offering low cost, high quality afterschool <br /> supervision in a safe, positive environment. The Club offers a variety of structured and unstructured activities <br /> and many programs, including nutrition education, STEM programs, and a variety of recreational and social <br /> activities, which would not otherwise be available to low and moderate income families. In this way, the Club <br /> allows families to use the money they would have put toward childcare in other ways. Further, the Everett Boys <br /> & Girls Club provides a variety of activities designed to support youth achievement and advancement in school <br />
