The City will determine what
upgrade is required to the existing single check system that was installed under the directiun of Alderwood
Water Dis[rict, prior to the anexation of this property by the City of Everett.
At minimum, our Utilities Department will require a Washington State approved double chcck valve assembly
retrofitted on the existing building. Based on the outcome of the meeting,a Washington State approved deuble
check detector assembly may be required to be installed inside the building, per City of L verett Standard
Drawing Nwnber 523,or outside the building in a vault, per City of Everett Standard Drawing Number 515
All single check detectors are now out of complianee with the requirements of the Washington State Departrnent
of Hcalth.
The attendees at the meeting should include all those copied on this letter, and can be arranged by calling me to
schedule the meeting. Before the meeting,Bill Bruce, who is our Cross Connection Specialist, should have an
opportunity to observe the unexrthed device with an owner's representative at the site. Bill can be reached at
425-257-8833.
For your reference, we have attached the minimum City of Everett Public Works installation requirements for
either a double check valve assembly(DCVA)or a double check detector assembly(DCDA).
I. The doublc-check datector valve assembly(DCDA), if required by the City of Everett, and the fire riser
access should be revised on the permit drawings of the building and resubmitted fcr Ciry of Everett plan
review. The following standards have been attached to this letter for clantication of the requirements:
City of Everett Standard 52= for an interior location of the DCDA requiring door access directly te the
outside of the building, or a ault location for the DC'DA. The DCDA should be]ocated no further[han
70 feet from the water main.
2. Per the Washington Administrative Code 246-290<190, the Ciry of Everett requires calculations for the `
new DCDA on the sprinkler system to determine that there are no negative impacts on sprinkler
performance. The suppression sys[em should also meet hyd:auiic requirements ofNFPA-13.
CITY OF EVERETT • `s200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 • (425) 257-8800 • Fax (425) 257-8856 —
c'Heky'h'mQKO]IO-Wa 11615 Airppn Maddu
