 °h 21• IYorthern. ►n.
 P.a No. zse-aa
driveways would be prepared in conformance with the recommendation is the prceeding
eections.
■ We have not beeprovided with trc frequency and axle bad wnfigurations for the
design of the parking lot pavement. The design ESALs(Equivalent Single Axle Loads)used
( in the analysis are estimated and is based on the inference that the proposed pavement will be
 udliud primarily by light trattic.
IWe have developed a pavement section based oa the subsiuface soil conditions
mcountered in Test Pit#1. Baged on our expecience with soils of similar gradatioa and
(. coasistency, and the use of geotextile fabric for wbgrade mengthening, a CBR value of 9 las
been assumed for the flexible pavement design. This CBR value corresponds to a resilient
modulus(Mvalue of 7,200 psi.
Pavement design procedura arc based on the strength propaties of the subgrade and
pavement materials, along with the design uaffic conditions. Consideriag that the traffic mix
will generally include passenger cars, vans, 6ght dury uucks, and 18,000 Ib. Siagle axle
tdeGvery trucks, a light duty flexible pavement section is recommeed for the general parking
ueas, and rigid sections aze recommended for the loading/unloading azeas where heavy traffic
is anticipated.
- A proper drainage system is essential for the adequate performance of pavement. The
dreinage system should be designed for the rapid removal oFwater from the pavement surface
tand&om the pavement section below.
The following flexib(e pavement section should be used for the general parking areas,
aad rigid pavement sections should be used for the loading/unloading areas and drive through.
Materiala Flrsible Secfiop Ri;id Sectioo RiYid Scctlon
Paikin ta areas Losdin ntoad aras Drive aas
 AspAaltie Conaete Sucfacing(Class B) 2 ia - -
PoNand Cement Conaete 8 ia 6 id
1'/.itth Crushed Aggtegate Base Course 6 in 6 ia 6 ia
ITotal ihicknw in Tacha 8 in. 11 in 12 in
I The construaion specifications for paving areas should include Washingtoa State
Department of Transportation(WSDOT)specifications for surface and base course mataial
selection. All base course materials shall be placed and mechanically compacted to s non-
yielding state. We recommend that the base course material conform to the 1991 WSDOT
Standazd for Ccushed Surfacing outlined in Section 9-03.9(3). The granular base course
material shall be mechanically compacted to at least 95%of the maximum dry density value
as detertnined by ASTM D-1557 test procedures. The asphaltic conc.ste shall mat Class B,
pursuant to WSDOT 1994 standard specifications, and the rigid pavement should' consist of
Iminimum 3000psi concrete slabs that are wire mesh reinforced and doweled at the joints.
 10
