I rz. e Northern, mc.
 Project No.29E-801
Footing widtlu should compiy with applicable building codes. All penmeter footinga
' should be at last eighteen(18) inches below the final extaior grade for frost protection.
Prior W footing ptacement, any wR, loose or wa uas encountercd in the footi
r_ areas should be removed and replaced with stnictural 611, angular uushed rock, contrmUed
densiry fill(CDFylean mix conccete or additional footing coneete. The crushed rocic or
atructural Sil sGould be plaud in uniform liRs and nechaaically compacted between GRs. '
( We recommead that we be engaged to verify excavation to witabie beazing susta prior W
foundation placement and w observe placement and compaction of the bacIL ,
Following is a discussion of two(2)opaons for placement of the proposed building I
foundation aad slab-on-grade. Sdection of the chosen option wiil be based on costs u►d ease
of consuuctioa In addidon, Optioa II as prasented below iavolva consideration by t4e
_ owr whethu to accept some risk of setdement in stab areas.
63.1 Option I

We rccommend that the uncontrolled fill and loose soil be excavated from the
( proposed building and siab azeas to a wbgade consisting of the on-site native, brovm sandy
L gravet(GP)that is dense. The excavations shouid extend a minimum of four(4)fat beyond
the outside edge of the proposed footings.
CWe raommend that this subgrade be compacted with a vibratory plate compactor W a
firm and unyiddi g state. The entire building foundatioa and slab azea should then be braight
' up m slab subgraae elevation wiffi propaly placed and compacted stcuctural fill. We
recommend footing trenches should then be excavated within the compacted stcuctural fill to
t6e minimum frost protection depth(18 inches beloasthe acterior finished grade).
l63.2 Option II
We rccommend excavating footing uenchas through the on-site uontrolled fill to t6e
native bearing wit described above. The buiiding's footings may then be placed directly on
I bearing soil. Altanatively, CDF/lean mix concrate, structural fill or compacted cnuhed rodc
j may be placed on the bearing soil and the footinas may then be placed on the structurat SU.
tn case of CDF/lran mix concrete, the footing trmch should extend a minimum of one
(1)foot on either side of the proposed footiqgs. If you dect to use suuctura1811 or ccushed
rock option, then the footing trenches should extend a aunimum of four(4)feet on both sida .
of the proposed spread footings.
' This option includes placement of buiiding siabs on the adsting uncoiarolled 6t1. We
recommend that this in-situ uncootrolled fili be over excavated at least two(2)fat below the
slab subgrade elevation. The exposed subgrade should then be proofrolled and mechanically
compacted prior to placing structural fill ¢onsisting of ccushed eock to slab subgade
 elevation.
, !
