The GC has a question about the
roof section and the insulation and venting requirements. He asked the inspector but he told him to ask you. This is a
vaulted roof with exposed beams and car decking (a mid-century modern type roof). Here is his question:
• Since this is a remodel the question is what are the roof insulation requirements for this specific project, r-30 or
r38 or?
• If we use the rigid insulation with an attached nailer sheet directly applied to the car decking is venting of the
roof structure required. In the city of Seattle the answer would be no if all voids are full.
• So our roof section would be (from interior to e,xtl
 _ — - _..- —`-----`°o"
o Existing roof rafter beams and car decking, then
, o Poly1S0 rigid insulation 5" = R 30, then
, o'" attached nailer, then 2Z
o Ice and water shield, then - I
o standing seam metal roof. '--"`f{l
• If fed there wouTcTbe 'z" strips at 16" OC above the insulation and below the %" nailer.
• Can you, as the plans examiner, explain the specific requirement for this project? The inspector would not make
the call on this.
Thanks
Christina Merkelbach
206-920-8502
i
