ARTICLE 23 - LINE OF PROGRESSION <br /> Requirements to take promotional examinations within the fire service are as follows: <br /> Firefighter Driver/Engineer Three (3) years of service as a Firefighter <br /> Firefighter/EMTA Three (3) years of service as a Firefighter <br /> *Firefighter/Paramedic Attainment of the rating of First Class Firefighter with three <br /> (3) years of service in the City of Everett Fire Department; <br /> AND <br /> Certification as a Washington State Emergency Medical <br /> Technician (Basic) OR Washington State Emergency <br /> Medical Technician/I.V. and Advanced Airway Technician. <br /> Medical Services Officer Four (4) years of service as an Everett Fire Department <br /> Paramedic. <br /> Fire Inspector Three (3) years of service as a Firefighter. <br /> Assistant Fire Marshal One (1) year service in the Fire Prevention Bureau as a <br /> Fire Inspector; or be a Captain for two (2) years; or hold a <br /> Battalion Chief's appointment. <br /> Fire Captain Five (5) years service within the Fire Department. <br /> Battalion Chief Four (4) years service as a Captain, two of which must be <br /> line experience. <br /> Fire Division Chief Ten (10) years service in the Fire Department. <br /> All of the above are based upon the entry level classification of Firefighter. <br /> *The position of Firefighter/Paramedic shall be a promotional selection process from within the <br /> Everett Fire Department and would become open/competitive only in the event that the <br /> position(s) could not be filled by qualified in-house candidates. <br /> Effective July 1, 2009, members appearing on Civil Service lists for Captain, Battalion Chief, <br /> Inspector, Medical Services Officer, Assistant Fire Marshal and Division Chief will not be eligible <br /> for acting positions or promotion until they have completed the respective workbook <br /> requirements for that position. <br /> Civil Service Promotional Examination Processes. Effective January 1, 2010, Civil Service <br /> promotional examination processes will be weighted as follows: 40% practical, 40% written, <br /> and 20% oral for the testing of Captains, Battalion Chiefs, Inspectors, Medical Services Officers, <br /> Assistant Fire Marshals and Division Chiefs. <br /> Past list points shall be calculated to include only the final examination grades earned (exclusive <br /> of past list experience, incentive points, veteran's points and time in service points). For the <br /> operational positions of Driver, Captain and Battalion Chief past list points shall be increased by <br /> 31 <br />
