ARTICLE 28 - PERSONNEL REDUCTION <br /> In the case of a personnel reduction, the employee with the least seniority shall be laid off first. <br /> Time in the Fire Department shall be given the utmost consideration. The involved employee <br /> shall have the opportunity of taking up to one (1) year's leave of absence as an option prior to a <br /> layoff. No new employee shall be hired until the laid off employee or individual on leave of <br /> absence has been given the opportunity to return to work. <br /> The employee shall be given a complete physical examination when he/she is laid off, and upon <br /> recall to duty, must be reasonably able to meet the aforementioned physical standard. <br /> Any employee holding a permanent appointment above first class firefighter shall be given the <br /> opportunity to return to his original rank at the time of the reduction before anyone is promoted <br /> to that rank. <br /> 37 <br />
