ADDENDUM
The City of Everett and the Everett Firefighters Local #46 agree to this addendum to the labor
agreement as follows:
1. The City and the Union mutually agree that those firefighters hired between the dates of
January 1, 1978, and July 1, 1983, shall maintain EMT certification .
2. For all Firefighter/EMT's hired prior to July 1, 1983, the City agrees:
a. To allow those Firefighter/EMT's who are scheduled to work the day or days of
the recertification test to take sufficient time off from work with pay to attend
and take the recertification test.
b. If the time required to take the above test necessitates Firefighter/EMT utilizing
time for that purpose beyond their scheduled work shift or on a day different
than their scheduled work shift, the City agrees to pay that firefighter at the
overtime rate specified in the contract.
c. It is agreed that the City of Everett shall provide all continuing medical education
required for maintaining EMT certification on the job during the regularly
scheduled duty hours of each firefighter. Any continuing medical education
required to be taken off the job will be paid as in paragraph 2b.
3. All firefighters hired after July 1, 1983, as a condition of employment, will within two
years of employment obtain and maintain EMT certification. For those firefighters the
City agrees to provide all continuing medical education as required for maintaining EMT
certification on the job during regularly scheduled hours of employment. While it is
agreed that the obligation of acquiring and maintaining EMT certification is the
responsibility of the firefighters hired after July 1, 1983, it is agreed that if these
firefighters are working on a scheduled work shift at the time they may be required to
take a class for EMT certification, they shall be allowed sufficient time off with pay to
attend and take the certification or recertification class or test. It is agreed between the
City and the Union that the issue of overtime pay for time required for taking
certification or recertification tests during times other than regularly scheduled duty
hours may be addressed by either party in future negotiations.
4. It is agreed that the City shall pay the cost of all EMT certification and recertification
classes and tests taken by all firefighters, regardless of date hired, other than as stated
in paragraph 5.
5. It is also agreed that, should a firefighter hired after January 1, 1978 fail to pass any EMT
certification or recertification test or evaluation, including the automatic retest or re-
evaluation, they will enroll in the next available class until they are able to gain their
certification or recertification. Except for the initial retest or re-evaluation, such
firefighters will bear all costs of testing and retesting and will be allowed off duty with
pay only if their absence from their scheduled work shift does not create overtime.
6. Adverse employment actions resulting from decertification shall be subject to Article 6,
Grievances.
