CITY OF EVERETT <br /> RESOLUTION NO. <br /> A RESOLUTION Authorizing Unique Fare Media for Snohomish County <br /> Employees <br /> WHEREAS, Snohomish County government campus is undergoing a significant <br /> campus re-development in downtown Everett,_ estimated to be completed by <br /> May 2004; and <br /> WHEREAS, the County supports local efforts to reduce air pollution and traffic <br /> congestion, by implementing programs that will encourage their personnel to use <br /> alternative modes of transportation other than driving alone in an automobile; and <br /> WHEREAS, EVERETT TRANSIT operates a public transit system for routed bus <br /> service, and para-transit service; and <br /> WHEREAS, effective February 2, 2003, EVERETT TRANSIT will provide <br /> additional service between downtown Everett and Everett Station, and <br /> WHEREAS, EVERETT TRANSIT, as stated in its mission statement, is charged <br /> with helping "local governments manage anticipated Snohomish County growth in <br /> a manner that minimizes the negative environmental and social consequences"; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, EVERETT TRANSIT, through interlocal agreements, has been <br /> appointed to administer the Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Laws in the City of <br /> Everett. These laws are aimed at reducing automobile-related air pollution and <br /> traffic congestion; and <br /> WHEREAS, Snohomish County, under a separate agreement, has agreed to lease <br /> up to 342 parking spaces at Everett Station for its employees; and <br /> WHEREAS, EVERETT TRANSIT, as directed by City Council, offers special <br /> group-fare rates to businesses located in the City of Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, a special group rate for services between the County campus and <br /> Everett Station is believed to encourage the use of Everett Transit services and <br /> mitigate potential parking problems in downtown Everett, <br />
