There are
approximately 100 city maintained and 150 privately maintained stormwater ponds throughout the city.
These stormwater ponds are potential breeding habitat for mosquito species that have spread the West Nile
virus in other regions of the country. Treating stormwater ponds with larvicides will prevent mosquito larvae
from maturing into adults. The NPDES permit application, when approved by the Department of Ecology,
will authorize the city to apply larvicides to city-maintained stormwater ponds and private property owners
to apply larvicides to their stormwater ponds.
RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council): Authorize the Mayor to sign an NPDES
permit application and Authorize Utilities to publish public notices
CG ccamstr doc
