II
EVERETT CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM COVER SHEET 7
PROJECT TITLE:
Initialed by:
AN ORDINANCE Amending the City's Parking Department Head
Regulations Relating to Employee Parking and CAA
Reparking in the Central Business District, Council President
Everett Municipal Code 46.28
LOCATION: COUNCIL BILL# Cf 03 0 - I
Originating Department Legal
Contact Person Soine/Van Slyck/Cox
Phone Number 8669/8738/8764
FOR AGENDA OF 04/30/2003,
05/07/2003,
05/14/2003
Preceding Action:
Consent 05/07/03 Second Reading
Public Safety Committee 03/28/2003 X Action 05/14/03 Third Reading
04/30/03 First Reading Public Hearing
Attachments: Department(s) Approval (Identify):
Expenditure Required
Amount Budgeted
Additional Required
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
On-street parking in the City's Central Business District continues to be a limited resource. Existing parking laws are
intended to preserve that resource for patrons of downtown businesses. The proposed amendments to Chapter 46.28
of the Everett Municipal Code would serve to clarify the intent of the law related to employee parking and reparking
in the Central Business District. One reading of the existing law fails to clearly prohibit downtown employees from
utilizing on-street parking spaces for long-term parking. When employees park on the street instead of using the
numerous available off-street parking facilities, local business owners suffer because their patrons are excluded from
the on-street spaces.
RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council):
Adopt the proposed amendments to the City's parking regulations relating to employee parking and reparking
in the Central Business District, Everett Municipal Code 46.28.
•
2 0
