A slab-on-grade without a garage below is also required to be insulated to minimum R-10 on the exterior <br />ar R-1Q on the interior for 24 " at the perimeter. The other option is to raise the floor to provide adequate space fior R-30 <br />insulation. <br />Chapter 5 Component Performance Calculation can be used for the structure to offset the lacl< of insulation in any <br />companents. <br />Additions less than 750 S.F. can use "credits" obtained by upgrading the existing structure. <br />As far as the walls, existing residentiai occupancies can be insulated ta the depth of the existing cavity, R-15 in 2 x 4 <br />studs. New construc#ion ar a change af use (converting a garage into a living space) requires R-21 insulation in exterior <br />walls. <br />(f you are proposing to do a campanent p2rform�nc2 calculation, be advised that optian #2 of Table 6-1 is the required <br />Reference Case. When we all met at the city about a month <br />ago the thought was to bring the accessory dwelling unit up to the current WSEC (and do a few other things). Because <br />the whole thing is built on a sleeper floor system over concrete, half of which is slab on grade I'm wonder how the city <br />wants us to treat the floor insulation requirement. The sleeper is mostly 2x6. Obviously I can't get under the slab to <br />place a layer of rigid foam and the floor system isn't tall enough to allow for R-30. But I'm wondering how the city is <br />2� ' <br />
