Expenditure Required $ 2,228,845.87 Account Number(s): 2981 Amount Budgeted $ 1,477,677.50 Additional Required $ 751,168.37 SUMMARY STATEMENT: Change Order No. 1 with Wilder Construction for the Evergreen Way Improvements, 41St St. to 47th St. project was written in the amount of $751,168.37 to cover the cost of additions to the contract. The major cause of the additional cost was the discovery of ground water seepage adjoining the large retaining wall at the south end of the project. The groundwater was not discovered in the initial geotechnical investigation, even though 5 test pits were dug. The groundwater indicated a greater chance of a landslide that could cause property damage and jeopardize workmen safety. Work on the wall was suspended while a new wall type was designed which required a more costly method of construction. Additional cost overruns included private property restoration, added asphalt for overlaying and leveling the roadway, traffic control and motorist message signs, and the contractor's administrative cost for the additional working days needed to construct the new wall. Due to the size of this change order Perteet Engineering was hired to perform an in-depth item by item review. They concluded that the unit costs for the additional work were within the prevailing rates, and the extra work was required to complete the project.
