The roof is tile.
Pre-manufactured roof trussed were cut to add a sun room (see photo's 1-4). Plans are
to remove the sun room. The roof truss cannot be cut. A new roof beam, Glu-lam 5 1/8 x
12 (24f-v4) will be required adjacent to the ridge. The cut truss must be sheathed with
15/32 APA rated sheathing and nailed with Sd at 3-inches on center ("o/c) each way.
Insert a vertical 2x4 DF # 2 at the plywood edge and connect the new member to the
existing truss with a 15/32" x 12" x 12" plywood gusset, top and bottom, nailed with 8d
@ 3" o/c each way.
The ceiling was bowed above the opening between the entry and family room. The walls
were built tight to the bottom chord of the roof truss, giving the truss support near mid-
span. No support is in place at the opening, and the truss shows deflection. To minimize
deflection, a 2x12 DF # 2 x 10'-0" long could be installed over the new opening, located
on each side of the center vertical web truss member. Nail the 2x12 to each side of the
2x4 vertical truss member with (3) 16 d nails each truss, each side.
!t could not be determined if the original trusses were designed for a tile roof dead
load. lhe top chord was stamped as machine stress rated HF with a bending stress of
1600 psi, which is substantial.
See plans for further detail concerning the above mentioned changes.
__ __ . . -- - ---- -- — -
tiru.tural Uc.i{n An,nci.nc
'KII' Rue6.flicr r.
