PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, July 18, 1979, marked the first ever commemoration of American <br /> Prisoners of War and Missing in Action, those who returned home and those still <br /> missing and unaccounted for, from our nation's wars; and <br /> WHEREAS, today, Americans still missing and unaccounted for from all <br /> conflicts from World War II through Operation Iraqi Freedom total more than <br /> 88,000 people; and <br /> WHEREAS, recognition of the sacrifice by our men and women in the Armed <br /> Forces serves as a tribute to the families of missing military members <br /> worldwide; and <br /> WHEREAS, each year our nation observes National POW/MIA Recognition <br /> Day in September; and <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Stephanson, Mayor of Everett, do hereby proclaim <br /> September 15, 2004, as <br /> "NATIONAL POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY" <br /> in the City of Everett and urge its citizens to honor those who sacrificed their <br /> freedom to preserve ours. <br /> Signed this 15th day of September 2004. <br /> Mayor Ray Stephanson <br />
