The majority of these conditions have been the result of plumbing installations, but certai.n electrical contractors have also been guilty. ' Section 2518 (d) , Uniform Building Code, state�: ".Jotches on the ends of joists shall not exceed one-fourth rhe joist d�pth. Itoles bored in joists shall not be within 2 inches of the top or bottom of the joists and the diameter of any such hole shall not exceed one-third the depth of the joist. Notches in the top or bottom of joists shall not exceed one- sixth the depth and shall not he located in the middle third of the span. " • • ' • Section 315 (b) , Uniform Plumbing Code, states: "AT1 pipinq in connection with a plumbing system shall be so installed that piping or connections will not be subject to undue strains or stresses, and provisions shall be made for ex- pansion and structural settlement. No oiping shall be directly embedde3 in concrete or masonry walls or footings. ' No structural r.ember shall be seriously weakened or impaired by cutti.ng, notching or otherwise, and unless imoractical due to structnral conditions, all wood beams, girders, joists, studs and similar construction shall be bored �vith holes approximatcly the same diameter as the pipes passing through them.
