Geotechnical Engineering Report
4721 Belvedere Ave, Everett - Hoot
January 18,2009
RMI File No. 50609
Page 4
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
General
It is our opinion that the site is compatible, from a geotechnical engineering standpoint, with the
proposed development provided recommendations and precautions in this report are followed. The
underlying deposits upon which the decks will be built typically have high strength and are considered
stable with regard to deep-seated earth movement. The native soils should provide adequate support.
We recommend that the piles or piers supporting the decks penetrate through any fill and be seated at
least 2 feet into the medium dense to dense native soils. Bearing pressure shruld be limited to 2000 psf
and the guidelines of the International Residential Building Code should be followed for transient
loading such as seismic.
Where piles or piers are located near the top of slopes they should penetrate into the medium dense to
dense native soils such that the outer surface of the support is at least 9 feet from the surface of the slope
(Figure 3: Schematic Cross -Section A -A').
Erosion Control Measures
The erosion hazard for the on -site soils is considered slight. No stripping or grading is planned.
Closure
If the recommendations in this report are implemented, the project should not adversely affect the
stability of the slopes on the site nor should the slopes adversely affect the project. This report is issued
with the understanding that it is the responsibility of the owner or his representative to ensure that the
information and recommendations contained in this report are called to the attention of all concerned
parties and incorporated into the plans and that the necessary steps are taken to see that the contractors or
subcontractors cant' out such recommendations in the field.
All people who own or occupy homes on or below hillsides should realize that landslide movements are
always a possibility, although the likelihood is low that such an event will actually occur. The landowner
should periodically inspect the slope, especially after a winter storm. If distress is evident, a geotechnical
engineer should be contacted for advice on remedial/preventative measures. The probability that
landsliding will occur is substantially reduced by the proper maintenance of drainage measures at the
RMI ASSOCIATES LLC / y%
