Subsurface FpJaratian, Geofogic fla ard, and
Uclvedere Lnrs Easr Pre(iminary Geotechnim! Engineenng Report
E crcrt 14'nshin mri Preliminarv Design Recammendations
III. PRELIMINARY DESIGN REC014n4ENDATIONS
8A INTROVUi,:'ON
Our exploration iadicates that, from a geotechnical standpoint, the parcel is suitable for the
proposed deelopment provided ttie recommendations contained herein are properly followed.
We recommtnd that buldings on Luts 32 through 34 be sited ac or behind the top of the ste ,
(greater ihan 40 Percent) slope; however, special foundation design criteria are recommended
where construction of strucwres is planned within 40 feet of the top of the slope. Although
slope stability analyses couducted or this study indicate low factors of safety for theoretical
failure surfaces located within 40 feet of the top of the steep slope, mitigation of these hazards
can be achieed. Details regarding the recommended foundation design criteria are provided
in the Foiu:datiorts section of this report. The top of the steep slope is depicted on the Site and
E-xploration Plan, Figure 2. It should be noted that in determining tfie location of [he top of
the steep slope, slopes at or above 40 percent grade but equal to or less than 10 feet in ertical
height were not considered part of he "sieep slope".
9.0 SITG PREPAFtAT10N
Site preparation of thc planned building areas should include removal of all trees, brush,
dchris, and any other deleterious materials. These unsuitable materials should be properly
disposcd ot off-sitc. Additionally, an}' areas of organic topsoil or fores[ duff should be
removed and the remaining roots grubbed. Arcas where loose surficial soils exist due to
gruhbing operations should be cunsidcrrd as fill to the depth of disturbance and treated as
suhsequcnUy recommended (or structural fill placement. 1+ny buried utili:ies should he
rrmovcd or relocated if thcy are under buildiug arcas. The resulting depression. should be
hackfilled u•ith strucwral fill as discussed uuder the Strvicturnl Fi!/ section of this report. All
fill soils belo• footing arcas should be stripped doHn to the underlying, medium dense to
dense or stiff to hard namral sediments.
In our opinion. stable temporar} construction slopes should be the responsibility of the
contractor and should be determined during construction. For estimating purposes, however,
Ne anticipate that temporary, unsupported cut slopes in the loose to medium dense weathered
namral sediments can be planned at a maximum siop, of 1.SH:1V (Horizontal:Vertical).
Llnsupported cut slopes in the sti(f to hard silt or dense to very dense native sand can be
7lflfl!'C at a maximum slope of approximatel 1H:1V. As is typical with earthwork
c,crations, some sloughing and raeling may occur and cut slopes may have to be adjusted in
thc tield. ln addition, WISHA/OSHA regulations should be followed at all times. Permanent,
unsupported cut or strucmral fill slopes should not exceed a gradient of 2H:1 V.
,5fnr:li 5, '!X7-t ASSOGA7'ED E1RTN SGENCES, 1NC.
;.: , , ,,; -„,..:, : ,, : H,, µ=, Page ]0
