A parapet complying with Section 709.4 is required on the northem exterior wall. <br /> 7'he construction of the pazapet should comply with the following: <br /> a) The parapet is of one-hour construction. <br /> b) The side of the pazapet that i� adjacent to the roof has a noncombustible covering <br /> for the upper 18" portion. <br /> c) The parapet should be at least 30 inches high from the point where the parapet <br /> and roof intersect. <br /> 5. In lieu of a parapet on the northern wall required above, the following change is <br /> allowable: <br /> a) The roofing is a minimum of Class B, and <br /> b) The southem wall is of one-hour construction, and <br /> c) The roof is a minimum of one-hour construction (two layers of 5/8" type x GWB <br /> applied to the trusses). <br /> Occupancy <br /> 1. A wall section should be provided for the one-hour fire-rated occupancy separation <br /> wall between the house and the addition per Section 302.3: <br /> a) The wall is required to start at the slab and continue to the roof sheathing of the <br /> addition. <br /> b) The 5/8" type X gypsum wallboazd should be shown on both sides of the studs. <br /> c) A 60-minute self-closing fire door is required at the firewall separating the house <br /> from the addition. <br /> 2. A minimum 60-minute fire-rated self-closing door is required within the wall <br /> separating the house from the addition. Section 3023 <br /> 3. A total minimum openable azea of 24 squaze feet should be shown for natural <br /> ventilation. Section 1202.2.1 <br /> Construction <br /> I. A 22" x 30" attic access opening should be provided in a readily accessible location. <br /> Access should be provided in a location with a minimum headroom cleazance of 30" <br /> per Section 1505.1. Note that if a parapet is not used on the northern wall, than the <br /> access hatch is required to be a 60-minute rated assembly. <br /> 2. The amount, type and location of attic ventilation should be shown. A minimum of <br /> 3.22 square feet (gross) or 4.02 square feet (net) should be provided. Note that bird <br /> blocking is not allowed at the northem wall. Any roof openings should not occur less <br /> than 10 feet from the property line (see comment above). <br />
