iI
I

. i',. -.. ' .
HOUSING CODE INSPECTION REPORT
FROM: MARiAN DENT, (:ITY OF EVERETT, HOUSING INSPCTOR
DATE: February 15, 1994
SUB.1: 1908ti Broadway , Evereti, WA
The Building Inspection Division received a complaint from tenants of this apartment
regarding poor living conditions. An inspection was conducted and the following is a
list of some of the deficiencies noted pursuant to the Uniform Housing Code. These
deficiencies are sufficient to declare the apartment to be subslandard pursuant to
Chaptcr 11 flf the Uniform Housing Code and/or may be consider:ci dangerous.
1. The bathroom lacks requirecl ventilation. Sec 504 (c): In lieu of required
exterior openings for natural ventilation in bathrooms containing a bathtub or
shower or combination thereof, laundry rooms, and similar rooms, a mechanical
ventilation system connected directly ta the outside capable of providing five air
changes per hour shall be provided. The point of discharge of exhaust air shall
be at least 3 feet from any opening into the buifding.
2. The water faucet for the bathtub has a hose taped to it. The hose is allowed to
lay in the bathtub when full of water. At the time of the inspection, the bathhb
was full of dirty, garbage filled water, and dishes. The hoee which was lying at
the bottom of this filthy water was in a position to possibly allow siphonage of
the wster and some of it contents back irto potable water.
3. The electrical service for this apariment, which is a fuse box, is located direcUy
behind the cook stove. The service cannot be accessed without pulling out the
stove. The tenaits stated that some of the electrica! outlets in the apartment
would not work until the loose wires in the electrical box were "jiggled". I did
not remove the stove to inspect the wiring in the electrical box but I suspec; that
the service is shorting out. The tenants were cautioned to ma.intain their smoke
detector in a good operating condition.
4. Thr, back plates, which cover lhe wiring of the ouUets and light switches, are li
missing.
5. Tte kitchen sink dces not drain. There is filthy water standing several inches
deep in the sink.
m,
1
