Dumpsters shall bc kcpt in good condition without cor,�sion�r Icaky seams. Damaged or leaking containers shall be rcplaced. 4. If wastc container drums are stored above ground,they shall be kept in au area such as a service ba�. If drums are kept outsidc, thcy must be stored undcr cover to kecp rainfall from reaching the drvms. Storage of reactive, ignitable, or ilammablc liquids must romply with thc Unifortn Fire Code(R.2 in Sectio� 4- 3). The following practices shall complemcnt,not contlict, with current Uniform Fire Code requirements. 1. Containers shall be located in a designated area. 2. The designated arca shall be paved,free of cracks and gaps,and completely impervious in order to contain Icaks and spills. 3. For liquid wastes,tanks shall be surrounded by dikes, bemts,or curbs. The dikc, berm,or curb shall bc of sufficient height t��provide a volume that is thc grcater of eitl�cr 10%of ihc total cnclosed tank volume or 110%of the volun ie contained in the largest tank. 4. Thc designated area shall be covcred. 5. The area inside the dike, bertn or curb shall slope to a drain. If the material being stored is controlled by the Uniform Fire Code, or is used oil or Dangerous Waste, thc drain shall outlet to a dead•end sump. For all othcr liquids thc drain shall br tied to the sanitaq�sewcr, if a�•ailable. A discharge permit from the City's Industrial Pretmatment Program will be required. Othenvise, process treatment or a dead-end sump shall be used subject to other permit rcquirements. The drin must have positive control (for example,a locked drainage valvc or pluc)to prevent rcicazc of contaminated liquids. 6. If the business is using rolling containers(for example,dumpsters)tl�at are picked up directly by a collection truck,the dike, bertn or curb can be modified to facilitate moving the dumpster. 7. Where material is temporarily stored in containers, a temporap�,portable containment systcm can bc I used,in lieu of the above systcm. ' 8. If a container is to be located in an area where fireazms may be discharged,the container should be encapsulated with concretc(or equi��alent). 9. Containcrs mounted for direct removal of a liquid chemical for use by employees shall be placed inside a containment area as described above. In addition,a drip pan shall be used at all times below thc container outlet. 10. Drums stored in �n area where unauthorized persons may gain access must be secured in a manner that prevents any unauthorized use. 1 l.
