P!!BL/C N/O/X5
July 2, 1997
Mr. Philip Rifner
5431 Broadway
Everett, WA 98203
Subject: Driveway 5431 Broadway
Dear Phil:
The public vorks ir.spector has voiced concems about the construction integrity and safety of
the driveway. I visited the site and concurred with his observations. It appeats that the block
walls are already shifting with only the dead load of the material placed between them. The
material is not compacted and when walked on breaks loose. The vehicle site distance onto
Broadway is poor and compounded by the slope of the driveway.
The city inspector discussed this problem with the contractor prior t construction. The
driveway needs to be reconstructed. The driveway needs to be designed with strucwral walls
capable of retaining the fill. The slope from the existing pavement should be 2%a for a
distance of 25 feet and then s[ope to Lot 2 at a maximum of 15% slope.
The City of Eerett is now in the predesign stage of developing Broadway inro a 5-lane street
with curb, gutter and sidewalks which will ultimately u[ilize about 75 fezt of the IW foot
righFof-way.
If you have any questions, please call me at 257-8977.
Sincerely,
Alan E.
