Affiliated American Company,
everly Lake Cor.dominimums
2. Jerry I•icCormack, £i00 cu. yds.
fill on South f3oadway
Dear hir. Lanulcs:
In response to your requcst. to have our Department revieti this project (1 ) ,
I went out carlici• this iee4; to investigite Qeverly Lake and the project
.rea.
t4y rnrtonents follow:
The nort!ieast portion of the Le•e contains a marsh area vhich included sueh
plants as water lilies, emergent 9rasses, bullrushes, Hardtach (Spirea nouglasii),
Sitka lder (Alnus sinuat_a) , and ?remblirg Aspen (Popu_1_is trr_muloides . I also
spotted five species of ducks includin9 buffleheads, rtdy«ficks, inaTlards,
cinnamon teal , and sculps. Also, coots, nesting red winged blacl:birds, violet
green swall;.is, harn s;allois, crows, !•obins, and turtles sunning themselves in
the ai'ea to be dredgcd.
As you can sce, this Lake supports a large variety of plants and animals, and
they are all interdependent nn each other. If one aiea is dred9ed or filled,
especially a marsh area, wildlife will be adveisely affected by the destruction
of an impo•tant dild 1'0(IUCt1VC part of its habitat.
We are also concerned wiCh surface •rater ivnoff carryin9 silt and petrochemicals
intio the Lake durinq and after const•uction. lde would su99est storm water deten-
tion pcnds with silL and grease traps installed and cleaned frequently. A vegeta-
tive buffer sti•ip should be left undisturbed along the Lake edgc to further prevent
erosion and sediment from entcrin9 the Lake.
We would suggc;t that thc project plans Ie altcred so the marsh areas will be left
in ils natn-il state so is tn continue to benefit iildlife and fish.
-,-:r
