2 . Examination of the Simpson connectors called in the
plan for the top of post to 8.75x15-inch Glu Lam
which frames over the garage door opAnings .
These were found to be satisfactory, but should be
the "optional " rotated connectors .
3 . Wood bearing in the 6x8 posts calculated to be
satisfactory.
4. The Simpson post connectors CB68 at the base of the
6x8 posts were calculated and found to be
satisfactory - however -
5 . The 9 . 25-ft posts do not have sufficient bending
strength to withstand an isolated 2 . 1 kip latFral
loading applied at the first story level .
The best solution seems to be to replace the CB68
connectors with a 5-inch x 1./4-inch steel plates,
anchored in the concrete footing, to 42-inches above
the garage floor level on each side of the 6x8 post
in che direction of the seismic push.
6. I have examined the 6x10 headers above the stairway
openings and I conclude these should be
interconnected to the 8 . 75x15 glu lams with holdown
connectors as shown in the sketch in the calculation
sheets .
In consideration that the garage opening frames ,
independently , can withstand the lateral push at
each end, and there is no calculated (isolated )
uplift ky virtue of the geometry and dead load
vectors, the 6x10 's could be considered as non-
significant for the seismic push. However, th UBC
requirea that the framing be continuous to transEer
the lateral load.
This is intended to be responsive to your query. Please let
me know if you need any further examination.
OyF.
4Cw .
Burton F . Reanie:•, PE

bW►t.
[Mat 11/2/ f
