;
'
  F .
 .

N
 Mr . Larry McCauley
o y May 19, 1989 i
Page Thr ee
pg i
,,,y The Fede[al Hiqhway Administration noise barrier model was used to
y compute the bacrier height necessary to achieve 60 dHA at a first
story el.evation for a receiver at the north face of thc
norti;er.nmost buildings which are closest to SR 526. The computed
o barrie:r height is 11 feet .
The barrier should extend along the entire nocth poperty line, i
and should continue along the east and west propecty lines to a
point 10 feet soukh of the north faces of existing two-stocy I
apactment buildings which adjoin the project site.
The ba[cier should weigh at least 4 pounds pec square foot and
have no gaps oc openings, including along the ground. Acceptable 'I
matecials include wood, masonry oc conccete .
iI
! With the noise barrier, the interior ound level [equirement of 95
C dBA can be met at the first story location, even with windows I
paitially open for ventilation. The interior sound level would
then be 45 dBA, based on 60 dBA exterior minus 15 dBA
outside-to-inside noise ceduction with windows partially open, I
1' Second stocies of the four buildings closest to SR 526 would, I
howevee, requi:e closed windows to achieve 45 deA interior , since
the exterior noise at the second story wouLd be above Leq
60 dBA. Forced-aic ventilation is therefore recommended for these
1' units, so that windows can be kept closed.
 .
, The interior sound level requirement can be met using conventional
, windows, except at the second-story north, west and east fas of
the two buildings closest to SR 526. At these units, an in .ulated
window with 5/16 inch glass, 7/16 inch aic space, and 1/4 inch I
glass for an overall thickness of 1 inch is recommended to gel i
from about 72 dBA exterior to 45 deA interior .
