Frets:
This is in response to an inquiry that you made concerning the
theatre seating plan for the Doein9 Tour Center. The seating plan
is what is sometimes referred to as a Ptodified Standard Plan.
It incorporates features of both Standard and Continental seating
geometry, as defined by the Uniform Building Code.
In my opinion the plan is responsive to the intent of the UBC 1n
terms of providing for the safety and the ease of ingress and
egress of theatre patrons.
For Standard seating, the UBC places no limit on the number of
rows which may be served by an aisle, provided the aisle width
is adequate. In the Boeing Tour Center, aisle widths meet or
exceed both Continental and Standard code requirements for width.
For Standard seating, there is a limit of 6 intervening seats to
an aisle. This limit is set so that relatively few people will
have to rise in their seats when a latecomer enters the row.
In the Boeing Tour Center plan, we have followed the intent and
the provisions of the Continental code, by increasing the number
of seats in the row, but at the same time increasin9 the back-
to-back spacing of the rows. This allows enou9h knee room so that
no one has to rise in his seat to allow a latecomer to enter the row.
This enhances the ease of entering and leaving rows, while
maintaining all other provisions of the Standard seating code.
,
Sin ely j
.,6'" / G
Peder H.
