DOEWG FUEL DOCK - TRENCIi DRAIN JULY
22
B. Test methods shall be hydrostatic ezfiltration tzsts or low pressure air tests except as
modified hereinafter.
1. Hydrostatic'Cesr. Mazimum leakagc shall not exceed 0.08 gallon per hour
per inch-diameter per 100 feet when field testcd by exfiltration method.
2. Low Pressure Air Test: The pipe and joints shall also be wnsidcred as
satisfactory when the time required in seconds for the pressure to decrease
from 3.5 to 3.0 pounds per square inch greater than the average back pressure
of any ground water that may submerge the pipe is not less than that
computed in accotdance with the folluwing formula:
I '
'. T = 233V
In the above fotmula:
T = time in seconds
V = volume in cubic (eet
_ .7854dL
where d and L are in feet
3. In every case, the height of the water table at the time of the test ahall be
determined by the Contractor by exploratory hola or such other methods.
4. The Conttactor, in contracting to do this work, agrees that the leakage
allowances as indicated herein are fair and practical.
C. Testing Fquipment and Procafure:
1. Fumish all nxessary testing equipment, inciuding hose, temporary piping,
approved pipe plugs, equipment, and flow meuurement facilitiu.
2. Any arrangement of testing equipment which will provide readily observable
and reasonably awurate mcasuroments of leakage under the specified
conditions will be permitted.
D. Time of Testing: Test pipe after all trench backfilling hu been completed and prior
to constcuction of pavement subbas.;. The Contractor, u his option and expense, may
make other earlicr tests to ensure complisnce with the tau specified prcviously. ,
E. Repairs: Repair or replace, in a manner approved by the Enginar, any section of
pipe not maling the air or hydrostatic test requirements, at no cost to the owner.
F. Subsequent Failure:
1. Infltration of ground water (ollowing a successful hydrostatic or air test as ,
specified shall tx wnsidered as evidence that the original test was in error or
that subsequent failure of the pipeline has occurred.
STORM SEWER SYSTEM 02724 - 5
