RESOLUTION NO. 5636OPosiba <br /> A RESOLUTION by the Mayor and Everett City Council thanking the <br /> Washington State Legislature for its investment in the transportation <br /> infrastructure needed to move people,freight and goods in the City and <br /> throughout the region and state <br /> WHEREAS,the City of Everett is a key hub and convergence zone for the movement of freight <br /> and goods, located at the junction of Interstate 5 and U.S. Highway 2, and in the midst of a <br /> Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF)railroad network connecting the U.S., Canada and the <br /> State of Washington with the Midwest; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City is impacted by an unsatisfactory level of traffic congestion that <br /> compromises the efficient movement of people and freight along our primary transportation <br /> corridors; and <br /> WHEREAS,major employers in Everett, including The Boeing Co., Fluke, Intermec, Kimberly- <br /> Clark Corp., and others, are highly dependent on truck and rail freight movements; and <br /> WHEREAS,Everett's arterials,particularly Everett Avenue and East Marine View Drive, carry <br /> millions of tons of freight annually to the waterfront; and <br /> WHEREAS,we recognize the importance of efficient movement of freight, its impact on major <br /> employers in the region and the role it plays in economic development; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City strongly supports transportation investments and appreciates the growing <br /> need for freight mobility; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Washington State Legislature demonstrated its strong commitment to freight <br /> mobility during the 2005 Session, setting aside $462 million for state freight mobility projects <br /> and$108 million for local projects; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Legislature specifically recognized the importance of key freight projects in <br /> Everett, allocating$7.4 million toward the 41st Street Overcrossing, East Everett Avenue <br /> Overcrossing and East Marine View Drive projects; <br /> NOW THEREFORE,be it resolved that the Mayor and City Council of the City of Everett <br /> extend their deep appreciation to the leaders of the Washington State Legislature for their <br /> commitment on freight mobility investments particularly in Everett . • ' • •mish County. <br /> Passed and approved this 15` 'ay of J le 2005 <br /> -.nil # <br /> Mayor Ra tephan •n,Mayor Ron G •.o ;r R!" <br /> it . to . <br /> Marian Krell, ouncil Presi ent Mark lson, Council Member <br /> Ian Hatloe, • Vice-President Bo Q erstreet,Counci Member <br /> Ai /i�' �_ <br /> da Stonecip Council ember Drew Nielsen, C uncil Member <br />
